Bluesky reports record usage

Bluesky, a social network that aims to be more open and decentralized than X, has once again benefited from Elon Musk’s missteps with the platform. According to a new analysis by Similarweb, Bluesky saw a surge in daily active users on the day that Musk announced plans to charge all X users a monthly fee.

Bluesky’s Android app saw half a million daily active users on the day of Musk’s announcement, up 20.6% from the day prior. Its web traffic surged even higher, with over 775,000 daily visitors, up 30% from the day prior.

This is not the first time that Bluesky has benefited from X’s troubles. In the past, Bluesky has seen spikes in usage after other X controversies, such as the revamped verification system and the recent rate limits.

It is unclear why Bluesky is specifically benefiting from X’s missteps, but it is possible that users are looking for a more open and decentralized alternative to X. Bluesky is still in beta, but it has already attracted a small but dedicated user base.
