Jony Ive and OpenAI working on AI hardware partnership

Share post:

Jony Ive, the former design lead at Apple, is reportedly in talks with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman about a partnership to design a new AI-powered hardware device. The details of the project are still vague, but it could potentially be a major competitor to Apple’s iPhone.

Ive left Apple in 2019 to start his own design consultancy, LoveFrom. He has since worked on a variety of projects, including a $60,000 turntable and a logo for King Charles III’s Astra Carta framework.

The partnership between Ive and OpenAI is still in its early stages, and it is not clear if it will ultimately lead to a product launch.

It is difficult to say for sure what kind of device Ive and OpenAI could be working on. Given their respective expertise in design and AI, it is likely to be something that takes advantage of the latest AI technologies.

One possibility is a new type of wearable device that is more intelligent and user-friendly than existing wearables. For example, it could be a device that can learn the user’s habits and preferences over time and make adjustments accordingly.

Another possibility is a new type of smart home device that is more proactive and helpful. For example, it could be a device that can anticipate the user’s needs and take action accordingly, such as turning on the lights when the user comes home or adjusting the thermostat to save energy.
