Nvidia has been raided by French competition authority (FCA) investigating potential anti-competitive practices.

The FCA’s intervention, reported by French newspaper Challenges and the Wall Street Journal, focuses on Nvidia’s dominant position in the graphics cards sector. With an astonishing 84% market share, Nvidia’s GPUs are indispensable to various tech giants, data centers, video game console manufacturers, and cryptocurrency miners. Additionally, Nvidia’s GPUs play a pivotal role in driving artificial intelligence (AI) advancements, contributing significantly to AI-driven technologies like ChatGPT.

The FCA said that it is investigating whether Nvidia has abused its dominant position in the GPU market. The FCA is also looking into whether Nvidia has engaged in anti-competitive practices in the cloud computing sector.

The FCA’s raid on Nvidia was authorized by a judge, and is a preliminary step in assessing potential anti-competitive practices. It is also part of European regulators effort to crack down on anti-competitive behavior by Big Tech companies.
