iPhone 15 owners report NFC and charging issues

BMW owners who also happen to own the latest iPhone 15 are reporting that their iPhone 15’s NFC chip no longer works after charging the device with their vehicle’s wireless charging pad.

The NFC chip is a vital component for functions like Apple Pay and digital car keys. The chip is reportedly ceasing to function after they charge their devices on their car’s wireless charging pad. This problem has sparked numerous complaints on various online forums, including the MacRumors Forums and X, formerly known as Twitter.

Users say after recharging their iPhones, these affected users discover their devices have slipped into a dreaded data recovery mode, presenting a blank white screen. Their NFC chip is then rendered non-operational upon reboot. The error message, “Could Not Set Up Apple Pay,” haunts their Wallet app, and no apparent remedy exists.

Attempting to address the issue, some customers have approached Apple, only to find their iPhones replaced with new ones. However, this solution is short-lived, as the replacement iPhones fall prey to the same NFC chip problem.

In addition to the NFC chip issue, some iPhone 15 users are also reporting problems with the new USB-C port. Specifically, some USB-C power banks are not working properly with the iPhone 15.

In some cases, the iPhone 15 will fail to charge when connected to a USB-C power bank. In other cases, the iPhone 15 will actually charge the power bank, instead of the other way around.
