Tom Hanks exposes deepfake dental advert impersonating him

Tom Hanks has exposed a deepfake dental advert impersonating him. In an Instagram post, Hanks revealed that an AI-generated version of him was being used to promote a dental plan without his permission.

“There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me,” Hanks wrote. “I have nothing to do with it.”

Hanks is not the only celebrity to have been targeted by deepfakes. Other high-profile victims include Martin Lewis, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Deepfakes are often used to scam people or spread misinformation. For example, deepfakes have been used to create fake celebrity endorsements for products and services, and to create fake videos of politicians saying or doing things that they never actually said or did.

In some cases, deepfakes have also been used to create pornographic videos of people without their consent. This is known as revenge porn and is a serious crime.
