Android 14 bug prevents access to media storage and triggers reboots

Share post:

A bug in Android 14 is preventing some users from accessing their media storage and triggering reboots. The issue affects devices with multiple users, and the primary user may be unable to access their media files. Some users have also reported that their device reboots with a “Factory Data Reset” message.

This issue primarily affects devices with multiple users, leaving the primary user unable to access their media storage. However, the problems don’t stop there; some users have seen their device spontaneously rebooting, displaying a “Factory Data Reset” message. Accepting this means any data not backed up will be irretrievably lost. Declining the message, on the other hand, exposes the device to a relentless boot loop, incessantly flashing “Pixel Is Starting.”

Google is aware of the issue and is working on an OTA (Over The Air) update to rectify the situation. While awaiting the release of the patch, Google recommends users to consider two immediate options. Firstly, performing a factory reset which will erase all device storage, or alternatively, requesting a test update by filling out a form, with the update arriving within 24 hours. The test update may take up to two hours to complete.
