Google announces Gemini Pro in Bard and competition with OpenAI heats up

Google has announced the global release of Gemini Pro in Bard, which will be available in over 40 languages and 230 countries. This upgraded version of Bard will feature text-to-image generation powered by the Imagen-2 model, claimed to be superior to OpenAI’s Dall.E2. To maintain a clear distinction between AI-generated and human-created visuals, Bard will use SynthID to incorporate digitally recognizable watermarks into the pixels of generated images.

This development comes as Google appears to be gaining an edge over OpenAI. Bard recently secured the second position on the HuggingFace Chat Bot Arena Leaderboard, surpassing GPT-4. The global rollout of Gemini Pro intensifies the competition between Google and OpenAI. Google has also been integrating Gemini capabilities into hardware devices, such as Samsung’s new Galaxy AI smartphones, and released Lumiere, a text-to-video generation model, which OpenAI has yet to achieve.

With these advancements, Google is positioning itself as a strong contender in the generative AI race, potentially surpassing OpenAI if the latter does not release GPT-5 soon.
