The Privacy Commissioner of Canada has initiated an investigation into Ticketmaster Canada following a cybersecurity incident that compromised the personal information of millions of individuals worldwide.

Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation Entertainment Inc., operates ticket sales and distribution in Canada and is based in the United States. The investigation was prompted by a complaint and aims to assess Ticketmaster’s adherence to the federal private-sector privacy law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Specifically, it will scrutinize the company’s security safeguards and compliance with breach notification requirements.

Given the ongoing nature of the investigation, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada is unable to disclose further details at this time.

Quote from Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne:

“Data breaches have surged over the last decade, and we have seen a significant increase in the scale and complexity of these incidents. Ticketmaster holds the personal information of millions of Canadians. The investigation will allow us to understand why this cyber incident happened and what must be done to address this situation and prevent it from happening again.”
