Slim CD, a payment gateway provider, recently disclosed a significant data breach that impacted nearly 1.7 million credit card holders. Hackers had access to its network for nearly a year, from August 2023 to June 2024.
During this time, sensitive information such as full names, addresses, credit card numbers, and expiration dates were exposed, though the CVV codes could not be accessed. The breach was detected in mid-June 2024, and Slim CD has since enhanced its security measures. However, no free identity theft protection services were offered to affected individuals.
Despite the lack of CVV codes, individuals remain at risk for potential credit card fraud, prompting the company to advise customers to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity.
Most, if not all of those who were affected would be unaware of their connection to Slim CD. Although the company provides payment services to various industries, including retail and hospitality, as it doesn’t directly interact with the customer.
