Artificial intelligence roles are leading LinkedIn’s annual “Jobs on the Rise” list, with positions like AI engineer and AI consultant topping the rankings. Despite recent tech sector layoffs, companies are hiring aggressively for AI expertise across industries, reflecting a growing demand for skills in developing and deploying AI systems.
LinkedIn’s report highlights a broader trend: many of today’s fastest-growing careers didn’t exist a generation ago. More than half of the jobs on the list, including roles in AI and workforce development, emerged within the last 25 years. Canada mirrors this trend, with a 48% increase in AI-related job postings and a ranking as the top G7 country for growth in AI talent concentration over the past five years.
While AI roles dominate the list, there’s still demand for human-centered jobs, such as travel advisers and event coordinators, indicating a renewed interest in in-person interactions as we head into 2025. LinkedIn data shows that physical therapist and workforce development manager roles are also in high demand, reflecting the importance of human connection even in an AI-driven world.
The report underscores a key shift in the job market: while AI isn’t replacing jobs outright, roles that involve working alongside AI are growing rapidly. The ability to prompt, guide, and engineer AI systems is becoming an essential skill for the future workforce. For those with the right expertise, opportunities are expanding — especially in AI hotspots like California, Washington, and Texas.
