Google issues Code Red over Microsoft investment in OpenAI

Google has issued a Code Red in response to Microsoft’s announcement that it will invest $10 billion in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.

According to The New York Times, Google met with cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin for assistance in combating ChatGPT for Code Red. According to reports, the pair met with executives to discuss the company’s artificial intelligence strategy.

The November 30 release of ChatGPT has sparked internal concerns about Google’s search engine’s continued dominance. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, reportedly held meetings about the company’s artificial intelligence strategy in December, and the company reportedly issued a “code red” after the AI bot quickly gained traction.

Google’s Code Red appears to be coming from its cutting-edge subunit DeepMind, according to rumors, with the launch of Sparrow, which is dubbed a safer type of AI assistant than ChatGPT. It will enter “private beta” later this year after being released in September 2022.

However, the search giant chose not to make them public, citing concerns about unethical behavior and how chat systems can sometimes violate social norms. According to a New York Times report citing sources familiar with the matter, Google also plans to demonstrate a version of its search engine with the chatbot.
