In the most recent index ranking for the best programming languages published by TIOBE Software, C comes in first with an 11.62% rating, while second-placed Java comes in at 11.17% and Python comes in third with 10.95%.

Although the rankings show several shake-ups, C++ and C# came in fourth and fifth, respectively, with ratings of 8.01% and 4.83%.

Commenting on the current ranking, Paul Jansen, CEO of TIOBE, said: “It is interesting to see that these 3 languages are getting closer than ever before. The difference between position 1 and position 3 is only 0.67%. This means that the next few months will be exciting.”

The ranking for July has changed slightly since last year.

Since July 2020, No. 18 Perl and No. 19 MATLAB has dropped four places respectively, and Delphi/Object Pascal jumps 10 spots, landing in the top 20.

TIOBE uses metrics such as searches on Google, Amazon, YouTube and Bing to calculate the rankings.
