How To Use A Chromebook That Is No Longer Supported

Share post:

The 2015 Chromebook Pixel is no longer supported and does not receive updates, leaving it vulnerable to attacks and other security breaches.

However, there are a few options to get a bit more life out of this device.

First, the user could install a full-blown Linux distribution on the Chromebook. Another option is to install and use Firefox.

Instead of working with an outdated version of Chrome, the user can install a current version of the Firefox browser and not worry that using that browser would be vulnerable just because it was old.

The only way to get the regular version of Firefox onto a Chromebook is via Android apps. So to get a version of Firefox that behaves as expected, the user has to go through the Linux app.

The only version available is Firefox ESR. This version does not contain all the latest features but is relatively stable.

The only major problem is that the user cannot upload files from Firefox, which may be <span style=”background-color: rgba(255, 213, 214, 0.196);”>the</span> ultimate deal-breaker.
