Windows 11 No Longer Compatible With Oracle VirtualBox VMs

Windows 11 will no longer be compatible with the Oracle VirtualBox virtualization platform.

Although Microsoft has announced new system requirements for installing Windows 11, including a TPM 2.0 security processor and Secure Boot, the company has made it clear that Windows 11 would not apply hardware conformity to virtualized instances during setup or upgrade.

Microsoft has turned its back on the previous statement in a recent version, indicating that it will maintain the Windows 11 system requirements on virtual machine VMs.

Microsoft stated, “This build includes a change that aligns the enforcement of the Windows 11 system requirements on Virtual Machines (VMs) to be the same as it is for physical PCs. Previously created VMs running Insider Preview builds may not update to the latest preview builds. In Hyper-V, VMs need to be created as a Generation 2 VM. Running Windows 11 in other virtualization products from vendors such as VMware and Oracle will continue to work as long as the hardware requirements are met.”

While users of VMWare Workstation, Hyper-V, Parallels, and QEMU have no problems because they support TPM Passthrough and Secure Boot, Oracle VirtualBox does not support these features, which discourages users from using Windows 11 on VirtualBox.
