Material Shortage Forces Ford to Suspend Production At Plant

Share post:

U.S. automaker Ford Motors will temporarily cease production at its Hermosillo plant in the Mexican state of Sonora on Friday because of a shortage of materials, the plant’s labor union said on Thursday.

The union added that workers will receive 75 percent of the salaries on Friday.

Ford also halted production from October 11 to 12 at its Hermosillo plant, where it makes its Bronco Sport compact SUV and Maverick compact pickup.

The union has not identified which materials were in short supply, but other automakers are struggling with a severe chip shortage as manufacturers switched production to parts needed for laptop computers, cell phones and video games during the pandemic.

Earlier this month, Ford said it would also suspend production at its plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, and at parts of its plant in Kansas City, Missouri.
