Court Denies Apple’s Request To Delay App Store Changes

A U.S. federal judge has rejected a plea by Apple to delay changes to its App Store due to its landmark legal battle with Epic Games.

Apple’s request to delay changes to the App Store that allow developers to notify customers of payment options outside Apple has been denied by a U.S. federal judge, Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers.

Refusing Apple’s permission to delay the change while the appeal is ongoing, Judge Rogers noted in her ruling: “Apple’s motion is based on a selective reading of this court’s findings and ignores all of the findings which supported the injunction. The motion is fundamentally flawed. Other than, perhaps, needing time to establish guidelines, Apple has provided no credible reason for the court to believe that the injunction would cause the professed devastation. Links can be tested by app review. Users can open browsers and retype links to the same effect; it is merely inconvenient, which then, only works to the advantage of Apple.”

Although Apple plans to appeal to another appeals court to have its claim approved, this will not result in Apple implementing the changes by December 9, as foreseen in the court’s original decision.
