Employees at an Activision Blizzard studio working on the “Call of Duty” franchise have formed a union seeking voluntary recognition from the company.
The union, supported by the Communications Workers of America, includes 34 employees in the quality assurance (QA) department at Raven Software.
Activision promised to look into the matter. Workers may also opt to hold an election supervised by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
Increasing criticism of Activision Blizzard’s culture has resulted in workers banding together to influence the company’s future. Employees have staged a walkout and circulated a petition demanding the resignation of Chief Executive Bobby Kotick.
By creating a union, employees can collectively amplify their voices and influence the company’s decision-making regarding their working conditions. Changes such as better work life balance as some QA testers at Raven claim to work up to 60-hour weeks especially when deadlines are looming.
Activision’s stock has significantly dipped recently as the company has been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct. Microsoft Corp has announced intentions to acquire the company.
