Google’s Jigsaw unit has announced plans to open source its Harassment Manager web application.

The tool will help users, in particular female journalists, to document and manage online abuse on online platforms.

For now, there is no standalone application that users can download, but developers are free to develop apps that integrate their functionality and services.

Twitter and the Thomson Reuters Foundation will be the first beneficiaries of the tool. currently, the tool works with Twitter’s API and Thomson Reuters Foundation plans to introduce the tool to its journalists on Twitter.

The tool allows users to review, sort and export malicious content with trusted parties. It gives room for users to mute or block perpetrators while also hiding replies to Tweets.

While developing the tool, Jigsaw worked with journalists and activists with a large Twitter presence.

The platform also worked with NGOs such as Article 19, Code for Africa, European Women’s Lobby, Feminist Internet, Glitch, the International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ), Online SOS, Paradigm Initiative, PEN America and Right To Be.
