Strong Labor Movement Triggers Amazon Union Push

Despite the long odds, a resurgent labor movement is pushing for a possible union establishment at Amazon factories.

The movement is triggered by several factors including increased momentum backed by the high-profile Alabama campaign, ongoing pandemic concerns, and strikes.

Despite losing the battle to organize a union at Amazon’s warehouse in Alabama, labor activity is now extending to other Amazon facilities.

More Amazon workers are putting pressure on their employers. Employees in New York raised money on GoFundMe in a bid to persuade the company to drop charges against organizers.

Amazon was also petitioned by workers from several sites after a tornado wreaked havoc at the company’s Illinois warehouse in December.

The union push has also spread to other union-resistant brands, including Starbucks where more than 140 stores have demanded union elections.

Some workers have however disapproved of the push for a union backed by Amazon. Amazon had continued to utilize every weapon in its arsenal to stop workers from having a union.
