Mobile Trojan Detections Rise As Spread Of Malware Declines

Share post:

Kaspersky’s quarterly report noted a sharp increase in the number of generic, banking and spyware trojans distributed, as well as a decline in the spread of malware.

According to the report, detection rates of mobile trojans have increased by about 40% compared to the previous quarter, and the number has doubled compared to the first quarter of 2021.

Adware and “risk tools” remains the most prevalent in terms of distribution volumes. Almost half of all attempts to infect mobile malware detected by Kaspersky in 2021 are for risk tools.

Kaspersky identified some interesting trends at the beginning of the year: the most notable trend concerns the increase in fraud apps being pushed through official app store channels such as Google’s Play Store.

One of the most common trojans are banking trojans. The fact that they are widely used and cheaply available in hacker forums and Telegram channels makes it easier for them to be adopted by less qualified cyber-criminals.

Users are advised to update their devices, install the required minimum number of applications from official stores, check permissions requested, read user reviews, review the developer’s website, and use mobile security tools.
