Phishing platform “Caffeine” makes it easier for hackers to carry out attacks

Share post:

Caffeine, a phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) is simplifying the process of carrying out phishing attacks with new features that can allow anyone to launch their own phishing campaign.

The platform was uncovered by Mandiant analysts after they investigated a large-scale phishing campaign that targeted a customer of the company in order to steal Microsoft 365 account data.

Advanced phishing options offered by the platform include mechanisms to customize dynamic URL schemas to help in dynamically generating pages filled with victim-specific information; first-stage campaign redirect pages and final lure pages; and IP blocking options for geo-blocking, CIDR range-based blocking, and others.

Among the characteristics of caffeine, according to researchers, are the removal of invites or referrals requirements, and the fact that its phishing templates target Russian and Chinese platforms, unlike most PhaaS platforms, which focus on bait for Western services.

In order to use Caffeine, attackers must create an account that gives them instant access to the “Store.” The Store contains tools to create phishing campaigns and an overview dashboard. The operator then buys a subscription license that costs $250 per month, $450 for three months, or $850 for six months, depending on the features.
