WordPress removes Twitter integration

Share post:

WordPress has discontinued its Twitter integrations due to Twitter’s new, pricey API membership plans, introduced earlier this year by Elon Musk.

Developers who wish to create Twitter-based apps or integrations must now pay at least $42,000 per month for Enterprise membership levels. To that end, WordPress issued a statement titled “The End of Twitter Auto-Sharing,” which revealed the business’s plan to remove Twitter from Jetpack, an official WordPress plugin run by Automattic, WordPress’ parent company.

Jetpack Social allows users to automatically publish information across a variety of social media networks, including Twitter. However, following the API price increase, Automattic was unable to negotiate new terms with Twitter, resulting in the termination of the Twitter connection on Jetpack Social.

WordPress users will continue to have access to Jetpack’s social services, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Tumblr, and the business hopes to add Instagram and decentralized Twitter competitor Mastodon to Jetpack Social in the near future.
