Facebook, Instagram launches paid verification system in U.K.

Share post:

Facebook and Instagram have created a premium verification service that provides U.K. users the coveted blue tick for a monthly price of £9.99, similar to Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue.

The new Meta Verified function requires members to be at least 18 years old and to provide a government ID for identification. Meta Verified, which is already accessible in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, will soon be available to users in the United Kingdom.

After being accepted by Meta, verified users will receive a verified badge, which increases security against impersonation. Meta will carefully monitor these accounts to validate their legitimacy. Furthermore, verified users will have access to personalized support from a real person if they have any issues with their accounts.

The adoption of a paid verification mechanism is a significant shift for Facebook and Instagram, which have hitherto been free platforms. The present authentication method for celebrities on Facebook and Instagram, on the other hand, will continue in place, since Meta has no plans to phase it out.

According to the platforms’ help sites, users can still apply for a verified badge even if they do not subscribe to Meta Verified. Public personalities, celebrities, and brands who match the eligibility criteria are eligible for consideration.
