Microsoft President calls for regulations on AI

Share post:

Microsoft President Brad Smith has expressed concerned about the rise of deep fakes, which are convincingly fabricated but false content created using artificial intelligence (AI).

He emphasizes the importance of proactive measures to help people distinguish between real and AI-generated photos or videos, especially when AI is used maliciously. Smith also calls for regulations to combat deep fakes and addresses the need to address foreign cyber influence operations conducted by countries like Russia, China, and Iran.

Additionally, Smith called for licensing regulations to be imposed on the most essential forms of AI, accompanied by obligations to uphold security measures encompassing physical security, cybersecurity, and national security.

He went on to advocate for the development of a new generation of export controls or an evolution of the existing controls. These measures would ensure that AI models are neither stolen nor employed in a manner that violates a country’s export control requirements.
