Google updates search to include Reddit forums

Google has updated its search engine to include discussion forums from social media platforms like Reddit. The new feature, called Perspectives, is designed to surface more authentic and informative results for users.

The update comes after thousands of Reddit forums went dark earlier this month in protest of the company’s decision to start charging developers for access to its data. This made it difficult for users to find helpful resources on specific topics, as many pages in search results were suddenly inaccessible or unhelpful.

The Perspectives tab on mobile web and the Google app provides users with a more comprehensive picture of a topic by displaying discussion forums and videos from diverse sources such as Reddit, TikTok, YouTube, and Quora.

The Perspectives tab, which is now available in the United States, will be expanded to additional nations in the future. Google claims it is dedicated to improving the tab based on user feedback, which may be supplied using the “Feedback” button. Furthermore, Google intends to improve its search engine by adding new AI-powered capabilities for delivering tailored and relevant search results.

Google’s senior vice president of search, Prabhakar Raghavan, stressed the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance consumer happiness. He stated his intention to always innovate and create new tools with the purpose of making consumers happy.
