Meta officially launches Threads app

Meta has officially launched its new app called Threads, a text-based conversation app that is seamlessly integrated with Instagram. The app has a user-friendly interface reminiscent of Twitter, and Meta is positioning it as a platform where users can directly follow and connect with their favorite creators and like-minded individuals.

Meta’s Threads app appears to be free of charge, offering users unrestricted access to posts. The app’s description on the App Store emphasizes its role as a hub for communities to engage in discussions covering a wide range of topics. Threads will collect data from users’ devices, including location data, purchase history, and browsing activity. This feature aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of data aggregation across its platforms.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s founder and CEO, expressed his vision for Threads, stating, “Our vision is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text, ideas, and discussing what’s on your mind.” He further acknowledged the need for a friendly community, extending his gratitude to Threads’ early adopters.

Responding to a tweet about Threads, Elon Musk took a swipe at Zuckerberg, sarcastically commenting, “Thank goodness they’re so sanely run.” This latest jab underscores the tension between the tech giants.
