Meta’s new microblogging platform, Threads, has recorded 70 million sign-ups in its first 48 hours.

Launched globally in 100 countries just a week ago, Threads, which is linked to Instagram and allows users to transfer over the accounts they follow on Instagram to their Threads account surpassed the 30 million mark within the first 24 hours, making it the fastest downloaded app in history.

Expressing his delight at the platform’s meteoric rise, Zuckerberg, founder, chairman and CEO of Meta took to his Threads account, writing, “70 million sign-ups on Threads as of this morning. Way beyond our expectations.”

Zuckerberg, also said that he wants to make “kindness” a focus of the app’s appeal, in a reference to concerns that Twitter, which has more than 250 million users, has become too hostile for some. “The goal is to keep it friendly as it expands,” Zuckerberg wrote on his Threads account. “I think it’s possible and will ultimately be the key to its success.”

Threads is now ranked No. 1 among free apps on Apple Inc’s App Store in the U.S.
