Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has announced the establishment of xAI, a new artificial intelligence business. The company’s mission is to “understand the universe,” Musk stated in an audio discussion on Twitter Spaces.

The goal of understanding the universe is also mentioned on its website, which also states that the team of research engineers involved in the project, which has previously worked for Google Research, DeepMind, OpenAI, Microsoft Research, and Tesla, is “focused on large language models, deep learning, and neural networks.”

Musk jokedly questioned “what the hell is really going on?” as he released the mission statement for xAI whose goal is to understand the very fabric of the cosmos itself.

Musk also stated that xAI will collaborate closely with his other businesses, Twitter and Tesla. The business will train its AI models using public tweets, and it may also collaborate with Tesla on AI software for self-driving cars as part of its effort to address the hazards of AI and focus on producing “good AGI.”
