The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has banned AI-generated voice robocalls to protect voters from deception and scams. This measure enforces the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, enabling fines and legal actions against violators.

The decision responds to incidents like AI-mimicked calls of President Joe Biden, aiming to prevent misinformation and extortion.

Regulations already prohibit pre-recorded or AI enable messages to cell phones and there are restrictions on messages sent to regular phones. The new rules will add additional protection and enable prosecution of those who violate these regulations. The FCC emphasizes the urgency in addressing this modern threat to consumer protection and electoral integrity.
