In the top ten mobile markets including the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan, users spent an average of 4.8 hours a day on their phones.

Data from App Annie’s State of Mobile 2022 report showed that in 2021, people spent a combined 3.8 trillion hours looking at their phones.

According to the report, seven out of ten minutes of total time spent on mobile phones was spent on social or photo/video apps.

Gen Z used photo/video apps, Millennials favored shopping, finance and food/drink apps. Gen X and Baby Boomers use their phones to browse medical, news and weather apps.

This revelation confirms that humans are approaching a purely mobile future.

“In the next five to ten years, mobile will continue to transcend demographics, becoming an irreplaceable tool that acts as the control center to our daily lives from banking, shopping, entertainment, health, fitness, and more. The market is ripe, and demand is high for mobile content, services, and entertainment as consumers downloaded a record 230 billion apps,” said Lexi Sydow, Head of Marketing Insights at App Annie.
