Chip Companies Complying With Export Control To Russia, Taiwan

Taiwan has confirmed that chip companies in the country are following’s government export control to Russia, one of the sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

According to the Taiwanese Ministry of Economy, it used the Wassenaar Arrangement to carefully inspect products sent to Russia. Wassenaar Arrangement details export controls on arms and dual-use goods and technologies and was signed by 42 countries in 1996.

“Domestic semiconductor manufacturers have also expressed that they will abide by the laws and closely cooperate with government measures,” the Economy Ministry stated.

Taiwan is not a signatory to the Wassenaar Arrangement, but the move to comply with this rule arose out of its responsibility to comply with the sanctions imposed by the international community.

Taiwan is home to the world’s largest contract chipmaker TSMC and is also unlikely to have an impact on the supply of raw materials for chip production as the Russia-Ukrainian war intensifies.
