Endless episodes of ‘Seinfeld’ generated by AI on Twitch

Mismatch Media, which describes itself as “scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, technology professionals, and more,” is using artificial intelligence to generate a surreal, endless episode of “Seinfeld” on Twitch.

The stream, hosted by the channel watchmeforever, employs generative artificial intelligence to generate an infinite stream of Seinfeld-style content online. The novel idea has taken root on the platform, and the stream has approximately 15,400 concurrent viewers at the time of publication.

“It’s an AI generated sitcom…about nothing,” a TikTok teaser describes the show.

As the title suggests, the never-ending episode is “about nothing,” as algorithmically animated Seinfeld characters wander aimlessly around their apartment, engaging in meandering, dreamlike conversations powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model, with minimal human moderation.

Skyler Hartle, the co-creator of “Nothing, Forever,” explained the project’s thinking in an interview with Vice: “The actual impetus for this was it originally started its life as this weird, very, off-center kind of nonsensical, surreal art project,” Hartle said. “But then we kind of worked over the years to bring it to this new place. And then, of course, generative media and generative AI just kind of took off in a crazy way over the past couple of years.”

The “Nothing, Forever” dialogue is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model. The AI platform completely generates the dialogue and scene direction. The show may also change based on feedback from Twitch users via the stream chat.
