AWS launches Carrier Network and Network Edge

Share post:

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of two new services to assist telecommunications carriers in building and operating their cloud networks.

AWS Carrier Network, the first service, enables carriers to create and manage virtual private networks (VPNs) in AWS. The second service, AWS Network Edge, allows carriers to deploy network functions like firewalls and load balancers in AWS, allowing them to launch new services faster and at a lower cost.

The AWS Carrier Network will allow carriers to connect their data centers to AWS via a private and secure connection. This will enable them to expand their reach to new areas without investing in new physical infrastructure. The service will also provide carriers with real-time network monitoring and analytics, allowing them to optimize and improve the performance of their networks.

Carriers will be able to deploy virtual network functions (VNFs) such as firewalls, load balancers, and intrusion detection systems in AWS using AWS Network Edge. This will allow them to provide new services faster and at a lower cost than traditional network equipment. The service will also provide carriers with tools for managing and scaling their VNFs, enabling them to meet their customers’ changing needs.

The two new services, which Amazon refers to as “offerings,” are intended to supplement news that AWS plans to release at MWC, detailing how it’s working with carriers and working to build more trust with them through tools that allow third-party access to networks in order to build services, among other things.

The introduction of these services is part of AWS’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the telecommunications market.

AWS is positioning itself as a key player in the transition to 5G and the emerging world of network-as-a-service by providing carriers with the tools they need to build and operate their networks in the cloud (NaaS). The services are currently available in a few regions, with more to follow in the coming months.
