Senators Call On Google For Racial Equity Audit

In a recent letter to Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, and other senior executives, several senate Democrats expressed concern about biased discrimination in Google’s products and the way the company handles the diversity of workplaces.

The group included Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Mark Warner of Virginia, Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut.

Senators then urged the tech giant to investigate how its products and policies could affect and harm black people.

The senators said: “We are concerned about repeated instances where Alphabet missed the mark and did not proactively ensure its products and workplaces were safe for Black people. Google Search, its ad algorithm, and YouTube have all been found to perpetuate racist stereotypes and white nationalist viewpoints.”
