Amazon Uses Algorithms To Fire Flex Workers

In a recent report published by Bloomberg, the media company stated that millions of independent contractors are suffering from the Amazon Flex program and are at the mercy of a system now used by Amazon, which mainly performs hiring, performance reports, and layoffs of workers through the use of software with minimal human intervention.

While Amazon launched the Flex program in 2015, it flourished during the pandemic and became an important part of the company’s logistics program.

Much remains to be done for reasons ranging from locked gates, bad weather, and bad selfies, which in most cases do not even correlate with the real reason for terminating accounts run by bots that manage staff for Amazon’s Flex delivery programs.

In her interview with Bloomberg, Amazon spokeswoman Kate Kudrna rejected the notion that drivers had been treated unfairly.

She said: “We have invested heavily in technology and resources to provide drivers visibility into their standing and eligibility to continue delivering, and investigate all driver appeals.”
