Google Angers Employees With ‘Hypocritical’ Remote Work Rules

Google’s hybrid work plan is being criticized by employees for being hypocritical as the rules do not seem to apply to senior employees.

The company unveiled plans in May for a hybrid working environment in which most employees will have to work from their office at least three days a week from September.

However, the way the company has handled the rollout of its plans has attracted particular attention as Google tries to figure out who will work where and how much they will be paid.

The issue was compounded when Urs Hölzle, one of the company’s longest-serving and highest-ranking executives, announced that he would be working from New Zealand, a move that many saw as hypocritical.

Two employees complained that Hölzle’s relocation sets a double standard where rules do not apply to senior employees.

According to Google employees, there have been tensions over transfers, compensation adjustments and remote work.

Pay cuts are also a concern for many as salary changes could be made depending on relocation.
