Apple Pays Woman Millions In iPhone-Repair Photo Case

Share post:

Apple has paid millions in compensation to a woman whose photos and videos were leaked online by technicians who repaired her iPhone after it appeared to have been posted by her.

The incident occurred five years ago when a woman studying at the University of Oregon sent her iPhone to Apple’s Pegatron Technology Service for repair.

The two technicians involved in the incident have since been fired.

Apple also requested confidentiality, and its role in the case was only revealed during a legal dispute between Pegatron and its insurers over the amount paid to Apple.

A similar case occurred in 2019 when an Apple store employee allegedly sent a text message with a nude photo of a woman taken from her phone after she took the device for repair.

An immediate investigation by Apple followed, and the person was fired a short time later.

The latest issue will add weight to the growing Right to Repair movement in the U.S., which reasons that devices such as iPhones should not be locked in official workshops.
