Apple Hires Former Canoo CEO For Car Project

Apple has hired a former top executive of BMW AG’s electric car division to help with its vehicle project, the tech giant announced on Thursday.

Ulrich Kranz, formerly chief executive of electric car start-up Canoo Inc., will report to Apple’s Doug Field, who led the development of Tesla’s mass-market Model 3 and now heads Apple’s auto project.

Apple’s automotive efforts, known as Project Titan, have been haphazard since 2014 when Apple first began designing its own vehicle from scratch.

In December, it was reported that Apple is moving ahead with its technology for self-driving cars, aiming to create a vehicle by 2024 that could include its own breakthrough battery technology.
