Microsoft’s Emergency Patch Fails To Fix PrintNightmare Bug

Share post:

While Microsoft released an emergency patch on Tuesday to fix a critical vulnerability that allowed attackers to control infected systems, developer Benjamin Delpy’s recent discovery showed how exploits could circumvent the patch.

A video accompanying his tweet showed a hastily written exploit against a Windows Server 2019 that had already installed the patch.

The video showed that the update does not fix vulnerable systems that use certain settings for a feature called point and print, which makes it much easier for network users to get the printer driver they need.

Even though the correction is incomplete, it still provides protection against various types of attacks that exploit the print spooler vulnerability.

Users should still install the Tuesday patch until further instructions are released.
