Extra Security Needed To Avoid Cyberattacks At Olympics

With the Olympics approaching, experts say security must be the top priority to prevent cyberattacks.

It is expected that hackers will try to get people to hand over information, access software and install it to ensure that people are infected with ransomware.

Karen Roby of TechRepublic discussed this topic with Ray Canzanese, director of threat research at Netskope.

For Canzanese, extra security from the Japanese government and the organizers is needed.

Security tactics to be tested include consolidating networks and ensuring redundancy, setting up backup teams and building response teams that will be available to monitor events in real-time.

According to Canzanese, every organization involved in the Olympics is a potential target.

“If the core Olympics infrastructure is so locked down, they’ll just go look somewhere else, they’ll find some other way to disrupt something,” he said.
