Era of Tech Whistleblowing Emerging Amidst Facebook Chaos

The recent revelations of Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen may have ushered in a new era of whistleblowing in the tech world, as more and more people come forward to reveal and address the secret plans and inventions of tech companies.

Thanks to a recent push from a whistleblower who used to work at Pinterest, Ifeoma Ozoma, Gavin Newsom, California’s governor, signed the Silenced No More Act, which, according to Ozoma, “allows anyone in California, regardless of the language in an NDA… to speak about their experiences with discrimination, harassment, or any other unlawful conduct.” This is undoubtedly a major boost for those who want to make their revelations public in a technology world that has been a terrible place for whistleblowers.

Whilst the confessions of whistleblowers are a product of a “deeply personal decision that is based on people’s personal situations, and their circumstances,”

Ozoma stated that her book, “Handbook for Whistleblowers,” will help them understand the process, what to expect, how to prepare, and how it could impact, while she hopes that recent events will give employees the courage to make their disclosures public.
