Uber Sued For Overcharging People With Disability

Share post:

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Uber on the grounds that the company violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Justice Department’s complaint said Uber does not take into account that people with disabilities need more time to get in a car because of their condition.

Instead of changing its policy on waiting time fees for them, the company charges them “wait time” fees. The Justice Department further revealed, “Uber’s policies and practices of charging wait time fees based on disability have harmed many passengers and potential passengers with disabilities throughout the country.”

The lawsuit draws the public’s attention to the alleged unfair treatment and also hopes to obtain the court order to force Uber to take certain measures, including ending discrimination against people with disabilities and modifying its policy on waiting time charges to comply with the ADA.

Other measures include training its employees and drivers on the ADA and paying money damages to people exposed to the illegal waiting time charges.
