Apple’s iPhone Market Continues To Thrive Despite Smartphone Market Decline

Two sources in the iPhone supply chain with direct knowledge of the matter said that iPhone sales have continued to perform well in July despite declining demand for other smartphone makers.

While some analysts expect Apple’s iPhone 13 shipments to decline in the just-ended fiscal third quarter, they also expect the company to outperform its rivals. Financial service provider Cowen expects Apple’s iPhone shipments to decline by about 1% in the just-ended quarter, while total shipments of mobile phones are expected to fall by as much as 13%.

According to Counterpoint Research, the economic slowdown in China has taken a huge toll on the smartphone market, sending global sales down 10% year-on-year to 96 million units in May.

A second source said that deliveries of the iPhone 13 from a factory in July were one-third higher than in July 2021, which was considered unusual considering that customers tend to stop buying in July and August as they wait for new models traditionally released by Apple in September.

“For Samsung’s display unit, a better-than-expected performance in Q2 is expected due to shipments for iPhones, which is the only smartphone with strong sales,” said Song Myung-sup, an analyst at HI Investment & Securities.

The sources for this piece include an article in Reuters.
