Elon Musk has reportedly converted some Twitter office spaces at Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters into bedrooms for staff after Elon Musk demanded they work long hours at high intensity, and San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection is not pleased.
The BBC obtained photos showing a room with a double bed, wardrobe, and slippers, as well as sofas being converted into makeshift beds. In another conference room, there is an alarm clock and a picture over a made-up bed.
Both current and former Twitter employees confirmed that there were four to eight bedrooms per floor, and that they appeared comfortable. In addition, the bedrooms house employees from Tesla and other Musk-owned companies brought in to work at Twitter, some of whom travel to Twitter for work meetings.
According to an ex-employee, new Twitter CEO Elon Musk has been staying at the company’s headquarters since he purchased it. It is consistent with Musk’s previous claim of sleeping at company properties. Furthermore, Twitter told employees in 2029 that they could work from home indefinitely because its remote-working measures during Covid lockdowns had been successful, so this could be an unlikely adaptation.
Following a complaint, San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection confirmed that it is investigating potential violations. In response, Musk stated that the city was going after businesses for providing beds to tired employees and that the city should prioritize protecting children from the consequences of opioid drug abuse.
