Tencent developing Chatbot tool similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Tencent has reportedly formed a team to create a product similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT language model.

Tencent’s project, according to sources, aims to create a chatbot that can understand and respond to natural language, similar to ChatGPT’s capabilities. This product is being developed in accordance with Tencent’s strategy to expand its AI capabilities and improve its chatbot services.

The chatbot tool will be powered by the Shenzhen-based company’s large data model Hunyuan, which has previously been used for advertising placement and targeting, according to the report.

According to a Monday report by Chinese media outlet 36Kr, the tool is called HunyuanAide and is led by the firm’s chief scientist Zhang Zhengyou. Zhang is a computer scientist who has led Tencent’s AI Lab and Robotics X units since his arrival in 2018.

Although OpenAI does not allow Chinese users to create accounts in order to use the chatbot, the open AI models that power the program are relatively accessible and are increasingly being incorporated into Chinese consumer technology applications.

A number of Tencent competitors, including Alibaba Group and Baidu Inc, have also stated that they are developing their own versions.
