Sanctuary AI unveils bipedal robot with advanced capabilities

Sanctuary Cognitive Systems Corporate, often known as Sanctuary AI, has introduced Phoenix, a bipedal robot that measures 5’7″ tall and weighs 155 pounds, making it equivalent in size to a person.

Phoenix is capable of carrying weights of up to 55 pounds and traveling at speeds of up to three miles per hour. It has complicated hands with 20 degrees of freedom, rivaling human dexterity and delicate manipulation skills. This is achievable thanks to unique haptic technology that simulates the feeling of touch.

Geordie Rose, Sanctuary’s co-founder and CEO, reveals that Phoenix was created to be the most sensor-rich and physically proficient humanoid ever made. It makes use of Sanctuary’s Carbon platform, allowing its unique AI control system to handle a wide range of labor activities.

Sanctuary tested Phoenix’s precursor earlier this year at a Mark’s retail shop in Vancouver as part of a restricted pilot program. The fifth-generation robot successfully executed a variety of retail-related duties throughout the week-long testing, including inventory handling, cleaning, tagging, labeling, and folding. Phoenix is billed to be an upgrade to this.
