A group of Ukrainian hackers known as the Cyber Anarchy Squad claimed responsibility for a cyberattack that took down Russian telecom provider “Infotel JSC” which provides connectivity services to Russian banks, online stores, and credit institutions.
The attack reportedly caused widespread disruption to Russian banking services, with multiple major banks unable to process online payments. The Central Bank of Russia’s Internet provider also went down on June 8, as reported by Georgia Tech’s Internet Outage Detection and Analysis (IODA) project. The company’s systems were still offline after 34 hours.
Ukrainian hacktivists, Cyber Anarchy Squad claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that all of Infotel’s infrastructure was destroyed. The hackers released screenshots as proof, showing access to Infotel’s network and a compromised email account.
According to Infotel JSC, restoration work is in progress, and additional deadlines will be announced.
