According to a Gartner poll of 501 respondents conducted from October to November 2022, 81% of big corporate CIOs aim to grow their IT workforce in 2023.

The most in-demand IT talents, according to the report, are cybersecurity, cloud platforms, and customer or user experience. Technical talents, soft skills such as communication and relationship management, and a good match for the corporate culture are the most essential factors in determining whether a person is qualified for the IT team.

In response to the shortage of qualified IT workers, 47% of CIOs plan to invest in training programs to upskill and reskill IT staff. Additionally, 46% plan to establish fusion teams, which are teams of technical and business personnel that focus on cross-disciplinary business success.

According to the survey, the hiring process for IT roles has experienced a slowdown in 41% of large enterprises. Additionally, 35% of these enterprises reported a decrease in their overall IT budget, while 29% acknowledged the implementation of an IT hiring freeze within their organization. In response to these challenges, 46% of CIOs have expressed plans to automate certain aspects of their workflow to alleviate the strain on IT resources. Conversely, 67% of CIOs have stated their intention to bolster their IT headcount by at least 10% to support their company’s comprehensive digital transformation efforts.
