AT&T Routes POTS Traffic Through the Cloud

AT&T announced a new service called Phone for Business-Advanced, which it says will replace many companies that rely on cable for a lot of digital services.

The service, which can provide up to 12 hours of power in the event of a power outage, uses an enterprise-wide DataRemote device to route voice and specialty lines over a cloud server or AT&T network by converting analog data traffic so that it can be transmitted over a VoIP-managed facility voice network, improving the security and cost of infrastructure that is costly to maintain.

The service is available in all 50 US states and will work for many services such as voice services, fax transmission, burglar and fire alarm transmission, pay-as-you-go, elevator, emergency call box and gate access.

While the device is wireless and has an automatic LTE failover, AT&T said it can streamline the billing process by creating a single provider and a single bill for the nationwide service.
