Information about how some members of the CIop Ransomware gangs were nabbed months ago has finally been made public.

According to reports, the operation called “Operation Cyclone” was coordinated from INTERPOL’s Cyber Fusion Centre in Singapore in partnership with Ukrainian and US law enforcement agencies and private partners such as Trend Micro, CDI, Kaspersky Lab, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet and Group-IB.

As a result, Operation Cyclone, with the necessary intelligence sharing between law enforcement agencies and private partners, Operation Cyclone led to the arrest of six CIop suspects in Ukraine, over 20 houses and businesses ransacked, the seizure of computers, and the recovery of $185,000 in cash.

Craig Jones, INTERPOL’s Director of Cybercrime Craig Jones explained, “Despite spiraling global ransomware attacks, this police-private sector coalition saw one of global law enforcement’s first online criminal gang arrests, which sends a powerful message to ransomware criminals, that no matter where they hide in cyberspace, we will pursue them relentlessly.”
